Sharing Your Android Device's Internet Connection with Tethering

Tethering allows you to share your Android device's internet connection with other devices such as laptops, tablets, or even other smartphones. This can be particularly useful when you are on the go, don't have access to a Wi-Fi network, and need to connect your other devices to the internet. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of tethering your Android device.

Prerequisites

Before we begin, make sure you have the following:

  • An Android device with an internet connection
  • A USB cable or a Wi-Fi hotspot feature on your Android device

Enable USB Tethering

  1. Connect your Android device to the computer using a USB cable.
  2. On your Android device, go to Settings.
  3. Scroll down and tap on Network & internet or Connections.
  4. Look for Tethering & portable hotspot or a similar option and tap on it.
  5. Toggle the USB tethering or USB internet option to enable it. You may see a confirmation dialog, so click OK or Allow to proceed.

Your Android device will now share its internet connection with the connected computer through the USB cable.

Enable Wi-Fi Tethering

If you prefer to use Wi-Fi tethering instead of USB tethering, follow these steps:

  1. On your Android device, go to Settings.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Network & internet or Connections.
  3. Look for Tethering & portable hotspot or a similar option and tap on it.
  4. Toggle the Mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi hotspot option to enable it.
  5. Configure the hotspot settings by tapping on Set up Wi-Fi hotspot or a similar option. You can set the Network name (SSID) and password for your hotspot.
  6. Once you have configured the hotspot settings, toggle the Mobile hotspot or Wi-Fi hotspot option to turn it on.

Now, your Android device is acting as a Wi-Fi hotspot, and other devices can connect to it using the provided network name and password.

Connect Other Devices

Depending on the type of tethering you enabled, follow the relevant instructions to connect other devices:

USB Tethering:

  1. Connect your other device (computer, laptop, etc.) to your Android device using a USB cable.
  2. The connected device should recognize the shared internet connection, and you should be able to access the internet.

Wi-Fi Tethering:

  1. On the device you want to connect to the hotspot, go to the Wi-Fi settings.
  2. Look for the network name (SSID) you set up on your Android device and select it.
  3. Enter the password you set up for the hotspot, if prompted.
  4. Once the device is connected to the hotspot, it should have access to the internet through your Android device.

Conclusion

By following the steps outlined in this tutorial, you should now be able to share your Android device's internet connection with other devices using tethering. Whether you choose USB tethering or Wi-Fi tethering, this feature is a convenient way to stay connected when a Wi-Fi network is not available.
