Setting Up Medical ID and Emergency Contacts

In times of emergency, it is essential to have your medical information and emergency contacts readily accessible on your smartphone. Most modern smartphones, including iOS and Android devices, offer the option to set up a Medical ID and store critical health information. This guide will walk you through the process of setting up your Medical ID and adding emergency contacts on both iOS and Android platforms.

Setting Up Medical ID on iOS (iPhone)

  1. Open the Health app on your iPhone. It is pre-installed and usually found on the home screen.

  2. Tap on the Medical ID tab at the bottom right corner of the screen.

  3. If it's your first time setting up Medical ID, tap on Create Medical ID. Otherwise, tap Edit to modify your existing Medical ID.

  4. Fill in your personal information such as name, date of birth, medical conditions, allergies, medications, and blood type. Additionally, you can include notes if needed.

  5. To add emergency contacts, tap on the add emergency contact button. You can then select a contact from your address book and assign a relationship such as "Emergency Contact" or "Doctor."

  6. Repeat the previous step to add multiple emergency contacts if needed.

  7. It is recommended to enable the Show When Locked toggle. This allows the emergency responders to access your Medical ID and contact your emergency contact directly even if your device is locked.

  8. Once you have finished filling in your information and adding emergency contacts, press Done in the top right corner to save your changes.

Setting Up Medical ID on Android (Samsung Galaxy)

  1. Open the Contacts app on your Samsung Galaxy phone.

  2. Tap on your own contact card or go to My profile if available.

  3. Scroll down to find the Medical Information section and tap on Edit or Add information to create a new entry.

  4. Fill in your medical information such as allergies, medical conditions, current medications, blood type, and any additional notes.

  5. To add emergency contacts, tap on Add emergency contact or any similar option available. Select a contact from your phone's address book and assign a relationship.

  6. Repeat the previous step to add multiple emergency contacts if needed.

  7. Make sure to save your changes by tapping Save or any similar option available.

  8. Some Samsung Galaxy devices have an additional feature called SOS Messages. Consider enabling this feature to send an emergency message with your location to your emergency contacts by quickly pressing the power button three times.

Accessing Medical ID in case of emergency

iOS (iPhone):

  1. On the lock screen, swipe right to access the passcode or Touch ID/Face ID screen.
  2. At the bottom left corner, tap on Emergency.
  3. On the Emergency screen, tap on Medical ID.
  4. Your Medical ID information and emergency contacts will be displayed.

Android (Samsung Galaxy):

  1. On the lock screen, swipe up to access the pin/pattern/passcode screen.
  2. At the bottom left corner, tap on Emergency.
  3. On the Emergency screen, tap on Emergency information.
  4. Your Medical Information and emergency contacts will be displayed.
