Sending and Receiving Emails on Android

In this tutorial, we will learn how to send and receive emails using the default Email app on an Android device. By the end of this guide, you will be able to configure your email account and efficiently manage your emails right from your Android device.

Prerequisites

  • An Android device with an active internet connection.

Steps

1. Opening the Email App

  • Locate the Email app on your Android device. It is usually named "Email" or "Mail".
  • Tap on the app icon to open it.

2. Adding an Email Account

  • When you open the Email app for the first time, you will be prompted to add an email account.
  • Tap on the "Add Account" button to proceed.

3. Selecting Your Email Provider

  • On the account setup screen, you will see a list of popular email providers (such as Gmail, Yahoo, Outlook, etc.).
  • Select your email provider from the list. If your provider is not listed, select "Other" or "IMAP" or "POP3".

4. Entering Your Email Credentials

6. Syncing Email

7. Composing and Sending Emails

  • To compose a new email, tap on the "Compose" button (usually represented by a pen or pencil icon).
  • Enter the recipient's email address in the "To" field.
  • Add a subject in the "Subject" field.
  • Compose your email message in the body section.
  • If desired, you can attach files by tapping on the attachment icon (usually a paperclip) and selecting the files you want to attach.
  • Once you are done composing your email, tap on the "Send" button to send it.

8. Receiving and Reading Emails

  • To view your incoming emails, go back to the main screen of the Email app.
  • The app will automatically sync and retrieve new emails.
  • Tap on an email to read its contents.
  • You can scroll through the email, view attachments, and interact with any included links.

9. Managing Emails

  • To manage your emails, you will find several options available while viewing an email.
  • Tap on the menu (represented by three dots) to access options such as replying, forwarding, archiving, deleting, marking as important, etc.
  • You can also swipe left or right on an email in the email list view to quickly perform actions like archiving or deleting.

10. Configuring Email Settings

  • To access email settings, go to the main screen of the Email app.
  • Tap on the menu (usually represented by three lines or dots) and select "Settings".
  • In the settings menu, you can configure various options such as email notifications, signature, sync settings, account management, etc.
