Pinning Apps and Using Guest Mode on Android

In this tutorial, we will learn how to pin apps and use the guest mode feature on Android devices. Pinning apps allows you to lock your device to a single app, while guest mode enables you to provide a separate user account for temporary or limited access. These features are useful for various situations, such as restricting access to sensitive information or creating a temporary user profile for someone else to use your device. Let's get started!

Pinning Apps

  1. Launch the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Security or Lock Screen and Security (depending on your device model).
  3. Look for the option that says Screen pinning, Pin windows, or similar and tap on it.
  4. Toggle the switch to enable screen pinning if it is not already enabled.

Now, you can pin apps to your screen following these steps:

  1. Open the app that you want to pin.
  2. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to access the recent apps overview.
  3. Locate the app's card and tap on the pin icon or the app's title.
  4. A prompt will appear, asking if you want to pin the app. Tap on OK.
  5. The app is now pinned to the screen, and the user will not be able to exit it without your device's lock screen security method (e.g., PIN, pattern, or fingerprint).

To unpin the app:

  1. Press and hold the Recent Apps button (usually the square or multitasking button).
  2. A pop-up will appear showing the currently pinned app.
  3. Tap on the Unpin or X icon to unpin the app.

Using Guest Mode

Guest mode allows you to set up a temporary user account on your Android device, providing limited access to apps and personal data. Here's how to enable and use guest mode:

  1. Open the Settings app on your Android device.
  2. Scroll down and tap on System or Users & Accounts (depending on your device model).
  3. Look for the Guest or Guest mode option and tap on it.
  4. Toggle the switch to enable guest mode if it is not already enabled.

To switch to guest mode:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel.
  2. Tap on your profile picture or User icon located at the top right corner.
  3. From the drop-down menu, tap on Guest or Add guest (depending on your device).
  4. Your device will switch to guest mode, and a new user account will be set up with default settings and limited access to apps.

To exit guest mode:

  1. Swipe down from the top of the screen to open the notification panel.
  2. Tap on the user profile picture or User icon located at the top right corner.
  3. From the drop-down menu, tap on Remove guest or Exit guest.
  4. Confirm your action in the prompt that appears.

Please note that the exact steps and options may vary slightly depending on your Android device's manufacturer and software version. These instructions are based on a stock Android experience.

By using app pinning and guest mode, you can have better control over your device's use and enhance privacy when sharing your phone or tablet with others.
