How to Use Windows Sticky Notes for Note-Taking
In this tutorial, you will learn how to effectively use Windows Sticky Notes to enhance your note-taking experience. Sticky Notes is a built-in app on Windows operating systems that enables users to create and manage virtual notes on their desktop.
Step 1: Opening Sticky Notes
- Click on the Start menu located at the bottom-left corner of your screen.
- Type Sticky Notes in the search bar.
- Once the Sticky Notes app appears in the search results, click on it to open.
Step 2: Creating a New Note
- To create a new note, click on the "+" button in the top-left corner of the Sticky Notes app window.
- A blank note will appear on your desktop.
- Start typing your note directly on the note window.
Step 3: Formatting Your Note
Sticky Notes allows you to format your notes to enhance readability and organization. Here are some formatting options available:
3.1. Highlighting Text
You can highlight important sections of your note for better visibility:
- To highlight text, select the desired text.

3.2. Changing Note Color

- Right-click anywhere on the note.

- To create a bulleted list, press "Ctrl + Shift + L" on your keyboard.
- To create a numbered list, press "Ctrl + Shift + L" again.
3.4. Resizing Your Note
Sticky Notes allows you to resize your notes to accommodate varying amounts of text:
- Click on the bottom-right corner of the note.
- Hold and drag the corner to adjust the size according to your preference.
Step 4: Pinning and Synchronization
Sticky Notes offers the option to pin your notes to your desktop and synchronize them across multiple devices:
- To pin a note, right-click on the note and choose the Pin to taskbar option.
- The pinned note will always be visible on your desktop, even when you minimize all windows.
- To sync your notes across devices, make sure you are signed in to your Microsoft account on Windows.
- Click on the ..." (ellipsis) button on the top-right corner of the Sticky Notes app window.
- Select Settings.
- Toggle the Sync my notes across all my devices option to enable synchronization.
Step 5: Deleting Notes
If you no longer need a note, you can delete it:
- Right-click on the note you wish to delete.
- Click on the Delete option from the context menu.
- Confirm the deletion by clicking Yes on the confirmation dialog box.
