How to Set Up and Use iCloud Photos

In this tutorial, we will learn how to set up and use iCloud Photos, Apple's cloud-based photo storage and synchronization service. iCloud Photos keeps your photos and videos securely stored online, making them accessible across all your Apple devices. Let's get started!

Step 1: Enable iCloud Photos on Your iOS Device

  1. Open the Settings app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on your name at the top of the Settings menu.
  3. Select "iCloud," then scroll down and tap on "Photos."
  4. Toggle on the "iCloud Photos" option.

Step 2: Set Up iCloud Photos on Your Mac

  1. On your Mac, click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner and select "System Preferences."
  2. Click on "Apple ID."
  3. Choose "iCloud" from the left sidebar and check the box next to "Photos."
  4. Click on the "Options" button next to "Photos."
  5. Enable the "iCloud Photos" option and click "Done" to save the changes.

Step 3: Accessing iCloud Photos on Your Devices

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Photos app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on the "Photos" tab in the bottom menu to view all your photos and videos.

On Mac

  1. Open the Photos app on your Mac.
  2. Click on the "Photos" tab in the sidebar to access your iCloud Photos library.

Step 4: Uploading Photos to iCloud Photos

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Photos app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on the photo or video you want to upload.
  3. Tap on the share icon (box with an arrow) at the bottom-left corner.
  4. Select "Save to Files."
  5. Choose the location where you want to save the file (e.g., iCloud Drive).
  6. Tap on "Save" to upload the photo or video to iCloud Photos.

On Mac

  1. Open the Photos app on your Mac.
  2. Click on the photo or video you want to upload.
  3. Click on the "File" menu in the top menu bar and select "Export" > "Export [number] Photo(s) or Video."
  4. Choose the location where you want to save the file (e.g., iCloud Drive).
  5. Click on "Export" to upload the photo or video to iCloud Photos.

Step 5: Managing iCloud Photos

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Photos app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on the "Albums" tab in the bottom menu.
  3. Explore the different albums, such as "All Photos," "Favorites," or "Recently Deleted," to manage your iCloud Photos library.

On Mac

  1. Open the Photos app on your Mac.
  2. Click on the "Albums" tab in the sidebar.
  3. Browse through the albums to manage and organize your iCloud Photos library.

Step 6: Deleting Photos from iCloud Photos

On iPhone or iPad

  1. Open the Photos app on your iOS device.
  2. Tap on the "Photos" tab to view all your photos and videos.
  3. Tap on "Select" at the top-right corner, then choose the items you want to delete.
  4. Tap on the trash can icon at the bottom-right corner and confirm the deletion.

On Mac

  1. Open the Photos app on your Mac.
  2. Select the photo or video you want to delete.
  3. Press the "Delete" key on your keyboard or right-click and choose "Delete [number] Photo(s) or Video."
  4. Confirm the deletion.
