How to Enable and Use Night Shift

Night Shift is a feature that helps reduce the amount of blue light emitted by your device's screen, making it easier on your eyes when using your device at night. This feature is available on Apple devices running iOS and macOS. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to enable and use Night Shift.

Enabling Night Shift on iOS

To enable Night Shift on your iOS device, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Display & Brightness.
  3. Select Night Shift.

Here, you have the following options to customize Night Shift:

  • Scheduled: Set Night Shift to turn on and off automatically based on a schedule. Tap on From/To to specify the time range.
  • Manually Enable Until Tomorrow: Turn on Night Shift manually and it will automatically turn off the next day.
  • Color Temperature: Adjust the warmth of the color temperature. Slide the indicator to the left for less warmth (more blue light), and to the right for more warmth (less blue light).

Enabling Night Shift on macOS

To enable Night Shift on your macOS device, follow these steps:

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the upper-left corner of your screen.
  2. Select System Preferences from the dropdown menu.
  3. Click on Displays.
  4. Select the Night Shift tab.

Here, you have the following options to customize Night Shift:

  • Schedule: Set Night Shift to turn on and off automatically based on a schedule. Click on the From/To dropdowns to specify the time range.
  • Manual: Turn on Night Shift manually and it will stay on until you turn it off.

Using Night Shift

  • Manual activation: In addition to scheduled activation, you can manually turn on Night Shift on iOS by pulling up the Control Center and tapping the Night Shift icon (a crescent moon).
  • Adjusting schedule: If you find the default schedule doesn't match your preferences, you can adjust it to align with your preferred sleep/wake cycle.
  • Color temperature balance: Experiment with the color temperature to find the balance that is most comfortable for your eyes.
