How to Enable and Use Guided Access

Guided Access is a useful accessibility feature available on iOS devices that allows you to lock your device into a single app, preventing users from accessing any other features or apps. This feature is especially useful for parents, teachers, or individuals who want to restrict access to certain apps or features for a specific period of time. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to enable and use Guided Access on your iOS device.

Enabling Guided Access

  1. Open the "Settings" app on your iOS device.
  2. Scroll down and tap on "Accessibility."
  3. Tap on "Guided Access" under the "Learning" section.
  4. Toggle the switch next to "Guided Access" to enable it.
  5. Tap on "Passcode Settings" to set a passcode for Guided Access. This passcode will be required to exit Guided Access mode.
  6. Enter a six-digit passcode and re-enter it to confirm.

Using Guided Access

  1. Open the app you want to use in Guided Access mode.
  2. Triple-press the home button (for devices with a Home button) or triple-press the side button (for devices without a Home button) to activate Guided Access. If your device supports Face ID, you can triple-press the side button and quickly hold your face in front of your device to activate it.
  3. The Guided Access screen will appear. You can use your finger to draw circles around any areas or buttons on the screen that you want to disable. This is useful if you want to restrict specific user interactions within the app.
  4. To adjust the options for Guided Access, tap on "Options" at the bottom left corner of the screen.
    • Time Limit: Enable this option if you want to set a time limit for using the app in Guided Access mode.
    • Silent Mode: Enable this option to mute all audio on your device while in Guided Access mode.
    • Keyboard: Enable this option if you want to disable the keyboard within the app.
  5. Once you have set the desired options, tap on "Done" at the top right corner of the screen.
  6. To start Guided Access, tap on "Start" at the top right corner of the screen.
  7. To exit Guided Access mode, triple-press the home button (for devices with a Home button) or triple-press the side button (for devices without a Home button). Enter the passcode you set earlier to unlock the device.

Tips and Tricks

  • If you forget your Guided Access passcode, you can reset it by going to "Settings" -> "Accessibility" -> "Guided Access" -> "Passcode Settings" -> "Change Guided Access Passcode." You will need to enter your Apple ID password to complete the passcode reset process.
  • To temporarily disable Guided Access without exiting the app, triple-press the home button (for devices with a Home button) or triple-press the side button (for devices without a Home button) and enter your passcode.
