How to Customize the Windows Notification Center

The Windows Notification Center, also known as the Action Center, is a centralized hub for managing and viewing all your system notifications in Windows. It allows you to stay updated with app alerts, system messages, and other important notifications. However, Windows also provides customization options to personalize your Notification Center experience. In this tutorial, you will learn how to customize the Windows Notification Center to suit your preferences.

Step 1: Opening the Windows Settings

  1. Click on the Start menu button located on the taskbar.
  2. Click on the Settings (gear-shaped) icon to open the Windows Settings.

Step 2: Accessing the Notification & actions settings

  1. In the Windows Settings window, click on the System category.
  2. From the left-hand sidebar, select Notifications & actions.

Step 3: Customizing Notification Settings

3.1 Controlling App Notifications

  1. Scroll down to the Notifications section.
  2. Toggle the Get notifications from apps and other senders to enable or disable. When enabled, you receive notifications from all installed applications.
  3. To customize notifications for individual apps, click on App notifications.
  4. From this list, you can manage and configure the notification settings for each installed app.

3.2 Configuring Notification Sounds

  1. Scroll further down to the Notifications section.
  2. Under the Sounds subheading, click on the Change notification sounds option.
  3. In the Sounds tab of the Sound settings window, customize various notification sounds such as Notification, Critical Battery Alarm, and more. You can select different sound schemes or even browse and select your own custom sounds.

3.3 Managing Notifications in the Action Center

  1. Scroll down to the Show notifications in action center section.
  2. Toggle the switches to enable or disable whether notifications from various apps appear in the Action Center.
  3. To change the number of visible notifications in the Action Center, adjust the slider under Number of notifications visible in action center.

3.4 Prioritizing Notifications

  1. Scroll down to the Notifications section.
  2. Under Get notifications from these senders, select an app.
  3. Use the Priority of notifications in action center dropdown to adjust the priority level of that app's notifications.

Step 4: Customizing Notification Center Quick Actions

  1. Scroll up to the Quick actions section.
  2. In this section, you will see a list of quick actions that appear in the Notification Center. These are the shortcuts for actions like Wi-Fi settings, Bluetooth settings, Battery saver, etc.
  3. To customize the quick actions, click on Edit your quick actions.
  4. From this list, you can add, remove, or rearrange quick action tiles to suit your preferences by using drag-and-drop or the up/down arrows.

Step 5: Choosing Notification Center Priority Settings

  1. Scroll up to the Notifications category.
  2. Under the Get notifications from these senders section, you can choose which senders' notifications are shown at the top level of the Notification Center.
  3. Click on the sender to access the priority settings.
  4. In the sender's settings, you can configure the importance level, sound, and notification banners.

Step 6: Customizing Lock Screen Notifications

  1. Scroll up to the Notifications section.
  2. Under Show notifications on the lock screen, you can toggle the switch to enable or disable notifications on the lock screen.
  3. To customize the lock screen notifications for individual apps, click on Choose which apps show quick status on the lock screen.
