How to Customize the Safari Start Page

The Safari browser on macOS allows users to customize their start page to personalize their browsing experience. With the start page customization feature, you can choose different background images, add favorites, display frequently visited websites, and more. Steps to Customize Safari Start Page

Step 1: Open Safari Preferences

  1. Launch the Safari browser on your macOS device.
  2. Click on "Safari" in the menu bar, located at the top-left corner of the screen.
  3. From the drop-down menu, select "Preferences."

Step 2: Access Start Page Preferences

  1. In the Preferences window, click on the "General" tab.
  2. Under the General tab, you will find a section called "Safari opens with."
  3. Click on the drop-down menu next to "Safari opens with" and choose "Start Page."

Step 3: Customize Background Image

  1. In the Start Page section, you will see a button labeled "Customize."
  2. Click on the "Customize" button to access the customization options.
  3. A new customization panel will open with various options.

Changing Background Image

  • Click on the "Background Image" option in the customization panel.
  • Select one of the provided images or click on the "+" button to add a custom image from your device.
  • Use the adjustment tools to resize or reposition the image.
  • To remove the custom background image, click on the "X" button.

Step 4: Add Favorites

  1. In the customization panel, click on the "Favorites" option.
  2. To add a new favorite website, click on the "+" button.
  3. Enter the name and URL of the website in the provided fields.
  4. To remove a favorite, hover over the item and click on the "X" button.

Step 5: Show Frequently Visited Websites

  1. In the customization panel, click on the "Frequently Visited" option.
  2. Safari will automatically display frequently visited websites on the start page.
  3. To disable this feature, uncheck the box next to "Show Frequently Visited."

Step 6: Choose Background Image Fading Effect

  1. In the customization panel, click on the "Fading" option.
  2. You can adjust the intensity of the background image fading effect using the slider provided.
  3. Move the slider to the left for a less intense effect or to the right for a more pronounced effect.

Step 7: Save Changes and Close Preferences

  1. Once you have customized the Safari Start Page to your liking, click on the "Done" button in the customization panel.
  2. Close the Safari Preferences window.
