Exploring WhatsApp Hidden Features

WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps worldwide, but did you know it comes packed with many hidden features that can enhance your messaging experience? In this tutorial, we will explore some of these hidden features that allow you to do more with WhatsApp. Let's dive in!

1. Formatting Text

WhatsApp allows you to format your text in different styles to add emphasis or structure to your messages. Here are some formatting options you might not be aware of:

  • Italicize Text: To italicize text, simply put an underscore (_) before and after the desired text. For example, _italic_ will appear as italic.

  • Bold Text: To make text bold, place an asterisk (*) before and after the desired text. For example, *bold* will be displayed as bold.

  • Strikethrough Text: If you want to add a strikethrough effect to your text, use a tilde (~) before and after the desired text. For example, ~strikethrough~ will be shown as strikethrough.

2. Pinning Chats

If you have important conversations that you want quick access to, you can pin them to the top of your chats list. Follow these steps to pin a chat:

  1. Open WhatsApp and navigate to the chats tab.
  2. Long press on the chat you want to pin.
  3. Tap on the pin icon shown on the top toolbar.

The pinned chat will now appear at the top of your chats list, making it easier to find and access.

3. Muting Chats

WhatsApp allows you to mute individual or group chats, so you won't be disturbed by constant notifications. To mute a chat, follow these steps:

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to the chats tab.
  2. Long press on the chat you want to mute.
  3. Tap on the mute icon (represented by a speaker with a crossed-out sound wave) in the top toolbar.
  4. Choose the duration for which you want to mute the chat (8 hours, 1 week, or 1 year).

Once muted, you will not receive any sound or vibration notifications for messages in the muted chat. However, you will still see new messages when you open the chat.

4. Sending Disappearing Messages

If you want your messages to disappear after a certain period, you can use the "Disappearing Messages" feature. Here's how to enable it:

  1. Open WhatsApp and go to the chat you want to enable disappearing messages for.
  2. Tap on the contact's name/group name at the top to open the contact/group info.
  3. Scroll down and tap on Disappearing Messages.
  4. Toggle the feature on and tap on Continue.
  5. Confirm your choice by tapping on On.

Once enabled, all new messages sent in that chat will disappear after seven days. Note that this feature won't affect older messages in the chat.

5. Using WhatsApp Web/Desktop

WhatsApp Web and Desktop allow you to use WhatsApp on your computer, making it easier to type, view media, and share files. Here's how to get started:

  1. Open a web browser on your computer and visit WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop (depending on your preference).
  2. On your phone, open WhatsApp and go to Settings > WhatsApp Web/Desktop.
  3. Tap on Scan QR Code and point your phone's camera at the QR code displayed on the web/desktop application.
  4. Once scanned, your WhatsApp account will be linked to the web/desktop client, and you can start using it on your computer.

Make sure to keep your phone connected to the internet and avoid sharing your QR code with others for security reasons.

These are just a few of the hidden features WhatsApp offers. By exploring these features, you can elevate your messaging experience and make the most out of this popular messaging app.
